LONDON WEDDING SUIT BUYING GUIDE: 2025 PRICE GUIDE & BREAKDOWN

London is the global suiting capital, with it being the home of the infamous Savile Row,  heritage brands of Jermyn Street and the contemporary East London players – it is easy to be overwhelmed by the choices out there and the misinformation peddled by those selling their special variant of  ‘snake oil’

We have put together this comprehensive guide breaking down the costs for a wedding suit in 2025, covering ready-to-wear, made-to-measure and bespoke options, options for all budgets. We have spent the past four years reviewing the tailoring scene in London, here are our expert opinions.

RTW, MTM & BESPOKE: WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

READY-TO-WEAR (RTW)

The term ready-to-wear originated in the mid-20th century, as fashion became more industralised, people could purchase clothes that were ‘ready-to-wear’ immediately after purchasing. Ready-to-wear (RTW) manufacturing uses a cut, make, trim (CMT) method of production. The suits are mass produced – the fabric is cut using laser cutters. These pieces are then passed through an assembly line, with each part of the garment having its own dedicated team of machinists, exclusively handling that specific construction method. Styling and proportions are decided for you, so you get what you are given with ready-to-wear suiting.

MADE-TO-MEASURE (MTM)

The made-to-measure method of construction dates back to the early 20th century, referring to a suit made from a pre-existing pattern or block. This is then adapted to the wearer’s unique body measurements and posture observations. The manufacturing method is similar to RTW aside from the internal construction methods (any decent made-to-measure tailor would only use a full canvas for their suiting). You’ll have the luxury of selecting the fabric, style details as well as overall silhouette/cut of your suit. Allow for at least three visits to your made-to-measure tailor and 6-8 weeks to complete the entire process.

BESPOKE TAILORING (SAVILE ROW)

The Godfather of tailoring and the highest level of sartorial craftsmanship there is. Literally meaning  ‘to speak for’ as lengths of fabric would be reserved by (bespoken for) the tailor for future commissions.

Each pattern is drafted completely from scratch as a new client order is taken on. The garment is mostly sewn by hand, externally and internally. This method of construction means the styling possibilities are endless. Unfortunately due to the level of detail required in bespoke tailoring,  3-4 months are needed for the suit to be completed and £4,000-£6,000 to be allocated from your wedding budget.

Construction qualities within these price bands will vary significantly, from a fused construction through to a half-canvas construction. You should also expect to spend additional money on alterations, getting their basic block marginally altered to fit you a little better.

MADE-TO-MEASURE WEDDING SUITS LONDON

This is an area we have quite a bit of first hand experience with, our love for tailoring and our want for transparency in a less prohibitive mode of custom clothing. Below are the top 3 made-to-measure tailoring options in London.

  1. Anglo Italian, starting at £1950
  2. Casual Fitters, £1295 (flat price 2PC)
  3. Steed, starting at £2000

Areas to shop;

  • West London, Spitalfields, Strand

Anglo Italian are more stylised, set in their ways with a soft tailoring house style. They however have many methods of construction, with some obscurity around their pricing. It will increase from what they are quoting online – great choice if you want the West London experience.

Casual Fitters are a great blend of efficiency, quality and transparency, you know what you are paying won’t fluctuate once your fabric and styling have been chosen and can trust the end process will be above the standard you want for your special day, without the pretense.

BESPOKE WEDDING SUITS LONDON

If time and your budget allow, going for a bespoke wedding suit is a top choice.

See our top 3 recommendations for a bespoke wedding suit in London.

  1. Huntsman, starting at £4,600
  2. Gieves & Hawkes, starting at £5,300
  3. Henry Poole & Co., starting at£6,000

Areas to shop;

  • Savile Row, Mayfair

Huntsman is the more contemporary of the bespoke houses featured, known for their country tailoring and presence on the silver screen –  it’s still a great choice for a timeless Savile Row bespoke suit. A ‘house style’ that features a one button closure, a firm shoulder and a natural chest.

Gieves & Hawkes located on the prestigious No.1 Savile Row. Rooted in its military history but not afraid to create a more ‘avant garde’ garment or a silhouette that has stood the test of time.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOUR GROOMS SUIT

Hopefully we’ve touched on something that’s workable for everyone and helped you on your way in buying your wedding suit, whatever method of construction you decide to go with.

For ready-to-wear wedding suits, we would personally recommend Moss or Hugo Boss. If you want to push the boat out for your big day and go for a made-to-measure grooms suit, Casual Fitters is the clear front runner, able to cut an English, French or Italian suit, with no hidden costs. Bespoke tailoring is dependent on the wearer’s personal taste, making it harder to recommend. Huntsman however, does make the most timeless and contemporary style of suiting, ensuring your wedding suit holds its relevance over time.

You’ll remember your wedding suit through photos for the rest of your life, it shouldn’t be an afterthought. Rush it and you might regret your decision when the photos come back! Whether you choose something ready-to-wear or decide to go the  made-to-measure or bespoke route – make sure it’s worthy of your big day.
